You know how you do something and it ends up taking you places you never thought you would go? Yeah‚ I knit poop.
Let me take you back a few steps. When I started knitting custom golf headcovers years ago‚ I was mostly doing football and baseball players. Different teams from all over the country‚ both MLB and NCAA. It was my own interest in superheroes that inspired the first designs outside that genre. Batman‚ Superman‚ Wonder Woman… they led the way for an entire new collection of popular designs.
Now I am best known for knitting the things that the geeks dream about. I get a lot of custom requests for cartoon and comic book characters. Amazingly‚ I had never received one for the famous foursome from Comedy Central‚ the boys of South Park. I knew that this would be a hit and knit up a sample set of golf club covers‚ with Cartman for the oversized driver. They sold immediately but I did not anticipate what was coming.
If you are a fan of South Park you already know who I am talking about. Mr Hankey was a character from fairly early on in the show. He came to celebrate the holiday season with the‚ ahem‚ “regular” boys and girls of the world. While he celebrates Christmas‚ he is there for all the children‚ no matter their background. This is of course Mr Hankey the Christmas Poo.
How‚ you May ask‚ does one design a golf headcover that looks like a Christmas Poo? Well‚ my process is pretty much the same for all my custom knits. I start with an image of the character and a rough outline of the shape of a golf club cover. I add colors and lines until it begins to resemble the picture. Customer approval of the sketch is the final step before I start knitting.
Don’t worry‚ there is never any actual poo involved in the making of your custom golf head cover. If you are interested in having your own Mr Hankey made‚ or any other design you can imagine‚ contact me to get the ball rolling.
