Happy Birthday to my Best Friend’s Son. He is now 10 years old. Why would I bother to share this with you‚ considering you do not know him‚ or my friend for that matter? Well it means that it is a special anniversary for me as well‚ it has been 10 years since I learned to knit.
I was a young mother of 2 when I found out the first of my friends‚ my best friend‚ would be joining me in the ranks. I cannot tell you why I decided I needed to knit her a baby blanket‚ I only remember that I wanted to make her something by hand. I did not know anyone who knit or where there was a yarn store nearby to learn. Plus‚ with 2 kids at home in diapers‚ how was I going to have the time?
Thank goodness for the internet! (bet you don’t hear that often) I found a local knitting group that met near my home. One of the members was generous enough to teach me the basics. I finished a scarf all by myself!
What I see in hindsight is how fearless I was with taking on this task. Not only did I learn how to knit‚ I designed my second project EVER. Oh‚ and it was intarsia. That is pretty tough even for experienced knitters. I guess that is how I knew this was the craft for me.
Well‚ I have officially made my best friend’s son’s birthday about myself. Happy Birthday to me?
